URBAN CHALLENGES | Open Call

Participation in a group exhibition in Berlin

Deadline for applications: 5 January 2020

Based on an open, transdisciplinary approach, art plays a central role at B-Part Am Gleisdreieck. It gives impetus, inspires, stimulates lateral thinking and reflection and in turn absorbs impulses and ideas. Permanent development and joint research, discussion and processing make the work on the “City of the Future” at this location a transdisciplinary project of multiple authorship, to which art repeatedly provides valuable contributions and impulses. The cooperation with the Photography Exploration Project for an open call on the topic of “Urban Challenges” addresses precisely this point.

As the urban population is growing steadily, cities are increasingly facing new important challenges – let them be social, environmental or economical. Our urban experience keeps on transforming and new questions arise every day. How to share the space? How should we build? Where do people work? Is there enough room for sports, health and culture? What is the role of public institutions? Which places are left for the communities? How to integrate the digital world and improve mobility? Which are the alternatives to the cars? How can cities become a responsible actor when climate change is concerned? Which sustainable options do we have? How to create connections? If the issues raised are numerous, they may as well open up new perspectives to enhance the quality of life of citizens. Either documenting the reality or imagining future transformations, we would like to discover the work of photographers embracing this topic.

The selected artists will take part in a collective exhibition at B-Part Exhibition in Berlin in February 2020.
