Paula Doepfner – An Exhibition of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung e.V.

25.11.2021 | 14:00 - 18:00

Free

Exhibition: 05 November – 11 December 2021
Opening hours: Wed – Sat, 2pm – 6pm

Paula Doepfner’s works refer to a diverse formal vocabulary, drawing, sculpture/object and performance. The thematic issues that the artist addresses, reflects upon and transforms with the help of these modes of expression are taken from neuroscience, literature and politics. The work is held together by a seemingly scientific precision, a turning to the human being and his existential conditions between life and death, and a poetic timbre that is content to be delicately allusive and is already subject to evaporation at the slightest vibration.

The interweaving of the ephemeral and violence gives the oeuvre ambivalent suggestion, which the viewer can hardly escape. Torture, human rights declarations and brain operations or the literature of Robert Musil become the extremely aesthetic score of a diversely tuned world. Virtually within sight of the Charité, where the artist regularly attends brain surgery procedures, Doepfner conquers a new place for art in B-Part. Here, where her destroyed and restored bulletproof glass panels and polyphonic-looking typefaces are displayed in a place that is as protected as it is exposed, multifunctional and internationally communicative, the exhibition provokes a qualitatively new urban dialogue.
